Fundraising Goals

During our first three PMP Cancer Walks  we were successful in raising awareness and creating funding for research through our walks registration fees.  Our motivation was from the heart. Our goals were modest:

  • To honor our beloved family member and friend Dutch Culbertson's memory
  • To help members of the PMP community who are still fighting this disease.
During 2009 our PMP Cancer walks contribution to the PMP Research Foundation http://pmpcure.org/ assisted the foundation in achieving their first significant milestone of 100k in fund-raising dedicated to PMP medical research.

Also in 2009 the PMP Research Foundation utilized the highly respected National Organization of Rare Disorders(NORD) to facilitate our first three grants of $50 K Each as follows.
  • Herbert J.Zeh, III MD-University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Pa.
  • In Honor of Dutch Culbertson.
  • Andrew Renehan, MD, PHD-University of Manchester, Manchester UK.
  • In Honor of Jerry Lewandowski.
  • Marc Pocard, MD, PHD- Hospitol Lariboisiere, Paris France.
  • In Honor of Mel R Kurtz.

We would like to thank the National Organization for Rare Disorders for facilitating the grant selection process on the Foundation's behalf.  The recipients were selected by NORD's independent Medical Advisory Committee.

Our efforts thus far are a great start and we are now committed to increasing our fund-raising to achieve more significant results.

Our 2010 BHAG-Big Hairy Audacious Goal is to achieve fund-raising of $75,000! This can be accomplished by:
  • Increasing the number of walkers in attendance
  • Having walkers obtain sponsors and collect donations-750 walkers @ $100 each in Sponsor donations = $75K
  • Building corporate walk sponsorships
  • Building media sponsorships
  • Creating partnerships of volunteers willing to conduct walks in other cities.(long term goal)

How much can you raise for PMP?

Collect donations from friends, family members, classmates, co-workers, neighbors or local businesses. It is a great cause and your efforts can help impact members of the PMP community through medical research.

Fund-raising Tips
  • Don't be afraid to approach people with an opportunity to help others and demonstrate their generosity.
  • Set a personal goal and send a letter to everyone you know.
  • Be open about why you are walking and why they should contribute to this cause by sponsoring you and the walk.
  • Share the PMPcancer website with every donor so they may understand the importance of the charity and your efforts.
  • Use other affiliations to raise money or recruit sponsors. Let your church, school, sports teams, cheerleaders teams or any other organizations that you belong to know what you are doing and how the members or teammates can help.
  • Use your place of business to place information and a chart on how your fund-raising is going; Make sure co-workers can see it.
  • Utilize company newsletters or bulletin boards to get information out. See if your employer will put up posters or table tents in a lunchroom.
  • Make sure you thank every donor and let them know how you did and the results of the walk.
