PMP Symposium |

The PMP Research Foundation is excited to announce our 1st Annual PMP Cancer Symposium hosted by Crozer-Keystone Health Systems.
The Symposium will be held on Saturday, June 19th 2010 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center- James E. Clark Auditorium, One Medical Center Blvd., Upland Pa 19013.
This FREE event (pre-registration is required) is designed to be an educational program for Physicians, Medical Practitioners and Patients to learn about the latest in the treatment and research related to Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP) and other Peritoneal Surface Malignancies. National PMP experts will be on hand to:
- describe what is known about the disease;
- explain current best practices in treatment including cytoreductive surgery plus Heated Intraperintoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC);
- describe issues with proper diagnosis and timing of diagnosis;
- discuss the current state of research related to PMP and other perintoneal surface malignancies; and
- describe the process of writing a winning appeal to your insurance company.

Armando Sardi, M.D., F.A.C.S., internationally renowned surgical oncologist, serves as the director of The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, as well as the director of the Institute’s Surgical Oncology Division.
Dr. Sardi is widely regarded for his training and skills in utilizing Intraperitoneal Hyperthermic Chemotherapy (IPHC/HIPEC), an advanced technique for treating late-stage, complex cancers of the abdominal region. Dr. Sardi additionally serves as a clinical investigator for the National Cancer Institute and is committed to conducting vital research leading to breakthroughs in the aggressive management of complex cancers. |
Laura Lambert, M.D., is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center.
More than 90% of Dr. Lambert’s clinical practice and research is dedicated to PMP and related diseases. Dr. Lambert established the clinical and translational research HIPEC program at UMass Memorial Medical Center, and is dedicated to providing education to clinicians about proper diagnosis and treatment options for PMP as well as conducting her own research on the disease. She is also actively engaged with patients and their families in trying to increase awareness and understanding of PMP. |

Steven Ahrendt, M.D., F.A.C.S. is an Associate Professor in Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Division of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Ahrendt specializes in the surgical management of gastrointestinal malignancies and other gastrointestinal disorders with an interest in PMP and carcinomatosis. His research interests include the use of molecular screening techniques for cancer detection. |
Laurie Todd, The Insurance Warrior is an author, teacher, and insurance strategist. From 2006 through 2010, Laurie has helped dozens of people to overturn denials of care - many insurers, many conditions and diseases, all over the United States.
Seeking to help more patients and medical providers, Laurie secured the backing of a major cancer research foundation, and published her book, Fight Your Health Insurer and Win. Laurie’s latest book, The Sample Appeal: More Insurance Warrior Wisdom is about how to write winning insurance appeals. Her book explains the basic principles of dealing with insurance bureaucracies and lays the groundwork for writing an appeal. |
